Little Evil is a comedy/horror Netflix original film released on September, 1st. It was written and directed by Eli Craig, most known for Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. It stars Adam Scott (Parks & Rec) and Evangeline Lilly (Wasp from Ant-Man) as a newly married couple, who may or may not have the spawn of satan as their son.
The supporting cast features a few familiar faces like Clancy Brown (Shawshank Redemption) and Sally Field (Forrest Gump) in small roles. I was surprised to see Sally Field here, but later found out she is the writer/director’s mom. Nice to be the child of a Hollywood legend I guess. Otherwise a stepdad support group is populated by many other stand up comedians and actors you’d recognize from TV sitcoms: Bridget Everett (Inside Amy Schumer), Chris D’elia (Undateable), Donald Faison (Scrubs), Kyle Bornheimer (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), and Tyler Labine (Reaper). Bridget Everett is the stand out performance and has some great scenes with the always funny Adam Scott.
The film feels like a comedic take on The Omen. Not to the point of it being a spoof, but it finds humor in the common horror plotlines we all know. Which is to say, it won’t be winning any awards any time soon. However, I got quite a few chuckles out of it and found it to be an enjoyable watch. If you’re searching Netflix for a change of pace, check out Little Evil, it’s a decent way to spend 90 minutes. Plus they filmed a lot of it in Cleveland…and Cleveland is awesome.
