Let me start off by saying I’m a fan of T.J. Miller. He has most recently been a scene stealer in Deadpool and Silicon Valley. I find him hilarious, so when I saw he had a new stand up special on HBO, I was all in. Sadly, I was disappointed.

I found his special to be all over the place and more absurd than anything. I guess that style of comedy may appeal to some, but I judged it by the simple fact that I did not laugh out loud even once. I do think that TJ has the skill to be a good stand up comedian, his timing, pacing, and storytelling skills are there. I just felt like I was watching the ramblings of a mad man, or someone who was exceptionally high. The best moments of his special came when he was riffing off members of the audience. Otherwise, I was not very impressed…don’t waste your time with this one. Go watch a classic stand up act from Chris Rock or Eddie Murphy instead. Or just catch up on Silicon Valley if you’ve never seen it. It’s currently finishing up it’s 4th season, although sadly TJ is leaving at the end of the current season. Hopefully not just to give us more stand up…
