Summer Movie Draft Update

Since we are now more than halfway through our Summer Movie Draft, we wanted to give you an update on the standings.

Nick is currently in the lead with $182.7 million from his 2 opening weekends. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 kicked off the summer strong, and Alien: Covenant had a decent showing. Craig is in 2nd place with his 2 releases. He made $129.7 million off Wonder Woman‘s strong open and All Eyez on Me had a decent first weekend. Brian is in 3rd with $94.7 million from Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and The Mummy, although both had lower openings than predicted. Roy is in 4th place, which doesn’t sound bad, but all of his movies have been released. He made $76.2 million off King Arthur, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul, and Cars 3. So, safe to say Roy is pretty much eliminated. Beau and Tony are neck and neck in 5th and 6th place, with only one release each so far. Tony‘s pick, Baywatch, bombed and only earned him $23.1 million. While Beau only made $23.9 million off Captain Underpants .

We still have 7 major films to be released, but it is looking more and more like a 3 horse race, with Nick‘s horse looking out of reach. The next 2 weeks will especially be interesting as Tony will need Transformers: The Last Knight and Baby Driver to overachieve, while Nick will solidify his lead with Despicable Me: 3, and Beau may make the most with Spiderman: Homecoming.

Check back with us in mid-August after all the remaining films (War for the Planet of the Apes, Dunkirk, and The Dark Tower) have been released to see who is the big winner! Maybe Craig or Brian can catch up to Nick‘s lead…
