Preview of Riverdale

No matter how cool I tried to appear as a young lad in the comic book store (as cool as anyone in a comic book store actually can be), reading “Batman” and “X-Men” and “Wolverine” I still always harbored a love for the Archie Comics.  Archie, Jughead, Betty, Veronica, I would once in a while drop in on their sugar pop, happy world to see what was happening with the group of high school kids.  Needless to say that when I heard CW was developing a TV series based on the comic book, I was silently excited.  Then I saw the previews for the show and got even more ready for the premiere.  The CW is definitely taking a darker turn with the Archie characters.  From the preview alone you can tell that the small town of Riverdale is thrown upside down by a dead body being found and all the familiar characters seem to be involved in the mystery.  There is almost a “I Know What You Did Last Summer” vibe to the trailer.

As for star power, as with most CW shows, the main cast is mostly young unknown actors that they can build the series around.  The two that people may recognize is Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones.  Sprouse is one half of the twin blonde boys that played the main child in “Big Daddy” and went on to star in “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody” on Disney Channel.  Also, because I feel he belongs in all teen dramas from now til the end of time, Luke Perry plays Archie’s father in the series.

I think “Riverdale” definitely has potential to be a good show.  I’ll give it my usual trial of three episodes before I make a concrete decision, but I am excited to check it out this Thursday the 26th.  Let me know what you all think in the comments section or at
